Winter

I am slowly becoming accepting of winter.

Growing up, winter in Dallas was always cold and moist and miserable. And while summer heat was unbearable, winter was as bad in its own way.

When I first moved to Virginia, where winter is longer than anywhere else I’ve lived, I hated it. I dislike the bare trees. Spring is delightful. Summer is verdant. Even fall is pretty with the leaves turning.

But winter is just dead.

But I’ve realized: winter is not dead. Winter is peaceful and resting. Time to take a break and look back and focus on the things forgotten by the wayside. Winter is for resting and recharging.

I may still yearn for spring before it finally arrives, but at least for now, I have made my peace with winter.
